Dubai’s a destination for the rich
to spend their money, all without a twitch.
We’ll levy heavy money, and in lieu
will serve up gilty pleasures just for you.
So on the menu what have we today—
some leaves of gold to dress up your entrée.
These pretty foils on top of racks of lambs
inspire a sonnet mostly in iambs.
A dish akin to eating strings of pearls
or licking treasuries of kings and earls.
An evening’s gilded dinner’s bought in vain
when pushed through bowels down the toilet’s drain.
But should this put at risk your savings goals,
tomorrow hunt for deals on toilet rolls.
